On Tuesday, April 19, a Lagos-bound traveler died at the domestic wing of Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport (NAIA).

Mama Tobi, a female traveler, was reportedly at the boarding area for her journey to Lagos when she reportedly slumped due to high blood pressure.

Witnessed by a lawyer, Felix Ashimole, the woman died in his hands after medical personnel from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) failed to arrive on time.

“Where is the money that they claim was spent on upgrading the airport to international standards?” There was no FAAN medical personnel for 13 minutes. She died in my and a few other people’s hands. “We lost her,” a medical doctor on his way to Kano finally said.

However, if FAAN had administered simple insulin, she would have been rescued. She suffered from diabetes. Her blood sugar spiked; she went into a coma; she received no medical assistance; she saw the light and headed toward it. Mama Tobi, Mama Tobi, don’t leave us, wake up, we kept calling her. Good morning, but saliva flowed down my chin, foams popped up, and I knew she’d found a better spot and wouldn’t be returning!

“FAAN and the entire airline employees on the ground acted as if it didn’t matter to them. They kept announcing boarding and never asked whether there was any medical professionals on the ground using their speaker. Finally, they dispatched an ambulance from their fire department to transport her body! Mummy Tobi, good night. In a social media post, the lawyer said, “Your country and countrymen failed you.”

The deceased’s body was brought to the NAF Medical Centre at the airport, according to reports.

FAAN’s spokesman, Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, confirmed the occurrence but denied that the organization failed to respond on time.

“Our physicians were present. We are dissatisfied with the outcome. We are sorry for what occurred, but God knows what is best in every case.” she remarked

She did, however, express FAAN’s condolences to the deceased’s family and hoped that God offer them the strength to bear the loss.
