SHOCKING! Court Jails Two Bankers for Stealing a Sum of N2.9m from Deceased Customer’s Account

Two former bankers, Titus Chima Nwankwo and Utibe-Abasi Ifiok George, were convicted and sentenced by Justice Elias Abua of the Cross River State High Court in Calabar, Cross River State, for stealing N2,900,000 (Two Million, Nine Hundred Thousand Naira only) from the account of a deceased customer of a commercial bank.

During their arraignment by the EFCC’s Uyo Zonal Command on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, Nwankwo and George pleaded guilty to ne-count distinct charges of forgery, conspiracy, breach of trust, and stealing.

The prosecution’s lawyer, Joshua Abolarin, asked the court to convict and punish the defendants based on their pleas.

George was found guilty and sentenced to three months in prison, with the possibility of a N100,000 fine.

Nwankwo was also sentenced to three months in prison and a fine of N50,000.

On June 16, 2021, a petitioner informed the court that they had forged Osso’s signature and exploited it to redirect cash for personal gain.
