Two Members Of ATM Robbery Syndicate Arrested by Police In Kano, Recover Stolen N500,000
Kano State Police Command officers have apprehended two suspected robbers and recovered N500,000 from a bank customer.
SP Abdulahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command’s spokesperson, stated in a statement on Monday, April 25, that the suspects are members of a criminal organization that positions itself in and around Automated Teller Machine (ATM) locations around the state to defraud unsuspecting bank customers.
“On the 21st of April, 2022, at approximately 1100 hours, a distress call was received from a resident of Ja’in Quarters, Kano Municipal LGA, stating that on the same date, at approximately 1000 hours, he withdrew the sum of N500,000:00 from UBA located at Sharada Quarters Kano with the intent to pay the salaries of Islamiya School Teachers,” the PPRO stated “.
“He stuffed the cash inside his motorcycle. He stopped in a neighboring shop to buy some supplies on his way to layin Ganduje Sharada. When he emerged, he noticed the money had been taken. He instantly sounded an alarm and dialed the Command’s emergency line to contact the police (08032419754)
“Following receipt of the report, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, fsi, Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, raised and instructed a team of Operation Puff Adder led by SP Abdulrahim Adamu, Divisional Police Officer Sharada Division, to arrest the perpetrators. The crew sprung into action right away.
“The thieves, Clement Amos,’m’, 25 years old, of Dakata Quarters Kano, and Isyaku Hassan,’m’, 25 years old, of Dorayi Quarters Kano, were caught and detained after continued follow-up and efforts by members of the Sharada community.
“The suspects confessed to operating as a syndicate, admitting that they went to UBA Sharada Quarters and watched those withdrawing money from the bank. They followed him with their motorcycle after discovering that he had withdrawn a large sum of money and placed it in his motorcycle.
“They stole the money off the motorcycle and zoomed up on their motorcycle where they were trailed and detained when he stopped to buy groceries from a nearby shop.”
The case had been directed by the Commissioner of Police to be handed to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for a quiet investigation, after which the suspects would be charged and prosecuted in court.
Criminals would not be able to hide in Kano State, according to the CP. He counseled them to either repent or leave the state.
He asked locals to report crimes to the nearest police station rather than enforcing laws themselves.
