Uniuyo Undergraduate Admission

Admission into Bachelor’s degree programmes is done through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The entry requirements seek to ensure that those admitted have the necessary preparedness to benefit from the programme. For entry into the Bachelor’s degree programmes, candidates are normally admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), by Direct Entry or through the Pre-degree Programme. Candidates are made to go through the screening test for all modes of admission.

1. ADMISSION THROUGH UNIFIED TERTIARY MATRICULATION EXAMINATION (UTME)

Candidates seeking admission through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) should meet the following requirements:

  • West African School Certificate, General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) or Senior Secondary School Certificate with at least credit passes in five subjects, including English Language at not more than two sittings or equivalent qualifications (e.g. Merit in Teacher’s Grade II Certificate in approved subjects is recognized as equivalent to credit in the Senior Secondary School Certificate).
  • Satisfactory performance in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
  • Satisfactory performance in the Post-UTME Screening Exercise conducted by the University.

2. ADMISSION THROUGH DIRECT ENTRY (DE)

Candidates seeking admission into the University through Direct Entry should posses, in addition to ordinary level requirements, one of the followings:

  1. General Certificate of Education at Advanced Level in at least two relevant subjects.
  2. Ordinary National Diploma (OND) at Upper/Lower Credit level from recognized institutions.
  3. Higher National Diploma (HND) at Upper/Lower Credit level from recognized institutions.
  4. Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with a minimum of merit in the relevant subject(s) from recognized institutions.
  5. Bachelor’s degree from recognized institutions.

In addition to the above-stated general requirements, Departmental admission requirements stipulated by the University and reflected in the Brochure of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) must be met by candidates.

Note: Admission Requirements are subject to review from time to time.

3. Admission Criteria for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB.BS) Degree

Candidates are admitted to the MB.BS Degree Programme either through the competitive JAMB examination, using accepted JAMB criteria for a six year programme; or by Direct Entry for a given year programme for candidates with AI Level GC/HSC or a good class degree in the Sciences. For candidates admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), a credit pass in five subjects in the SSCE/equivalent examination at not more than 2 sittings of each or any combination of the examinations; in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and English Language are mandatory requirements. For Direct Entry students, a good grade pass in the following subjects: Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Zoology, plus a credit pass in English Language at WASCE or an equivalent examination; or a good class degree in the Sciences plus. a credit pass In .English . Language at WASCE or an equivalent examination are required.

DEFERMENT OF ADMISSION

Deferment of admission takes place in a situation in which a candidate who has been offered admission is unable to take up the admission in that academic year. For deferment of admission to be approved by Senate, the candidate must:

  1. Have appeared for screening and was found qualified for registration in the Department into which he was offered admission;
  2. Have formally accepted the admission and paid the Acceptance fee;
  3. Have one of the following reasons for deferment:

(a) Financial constraint

(b) ill-health, in which case, he must submit a Medical Report authenticated by the Director of Health Services of the University.

(c) Non-release by employer

(d) Family problem

Under no circumstance should a candidate defer admission in order to make up for deficiency in admission requirements.

SUSPENSION OF STUDIES:

A registered and matriculated student of the University can suspend his studies under the following conditions:

  1. The student must have undergone screening, got registered and commenced studies for a period of time;
  2. The student must have proffered the following reasons:

(a) Financial constraint

(b) ill-health

  1. The suspension of studies should normally be for a maximum period of one academic year in the first instance.
  2. The application for suspension of studies should be submitted through the Head of Department to the Dean of Faculty.
  3. The Faculty Board should deliberate on it and make a recommendation to Senate through the Business Committee of Senate.

Uniuyo School of Basic Studies Admission

Brief Introduction of the  Directorate Of Pre-Degree Studies

The Remedial Unit, as it was previously called, was established in 1986 in the days of University of Cross River State (UniCross) and got transformed into the Directorate of Pre-Degree Studies in 2008 by Senate. In 2012, the Directorate of Pre-Degree Studies was moved to a stand-alone campus, Dr.Ime Sampson Umana campus, Ediene Abak, Abak Local Government Area. The current Director is Professor Ini Uko with the Deputy Director as Dr. (Mrs.) Eno E. Ituen. The Directorate houses two programmes namely:

1. THE BASIC STUDIES PROGRAMME

At the inception of the Directorate in 2011/2012 session, it was a two-year Foundation Programme as an additional avenue for the preparation of candidates for the degree programmes through Direct Entry. The Foundation Peogramme only lasted for just one year because NUC directed that every such programmes that do not pass through JAMB should be discontinued. In 2012/2013 the Foundation Programme was replaced by Basic Studies Programme, after the University had sought and obtained an affiliation with the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) examination domiciled in Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. This implies that the students will take the IJMB examination, obtain IJMB certificate and get admitted by direct entry into the 200 level of the various undergraduate programmes in the University.

Content Of Basic Studies Programme

The Basic Studies Programme handles ALL courses in ALL the Faculties of the University of Uyo:

Arts and Humanities, Basic Medical Sciences, Business Administration, Clinical Sciences, Education, Early Childhood, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Law, Pharmacy, Science, Social Science.

Admission Requirement

The admission requirements for the Basic Studies Programme is a minimum of five (5) credits in English Language, Mathematics and any three (3) relevant subjects obtained at not more than two (2) sittings at the SSCE/WASCE GCE O/L / NECO with results obtained before registration. Admission into the Programme is usually through a screening test.

 

2. THE PRE-DEGREE PROGRAMME

The Pre-degree Programme in the University of Uyo started as a Remedial Programme in the form of a social service programme designed to address the problem of admission of students into the University. The Remedial Programme was upgraded into its present status and this prompted a change of name to its present name.

Content Of Pre-degree Programme

The Pre-Degree Programme currently prepares students for admission into the Faculties of Agriculture, Education and Science.

Admission Requirement

a. Candidates must possess credit passes in at least five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Agricultural Science is accepted in place of Biology for Agricultural Education and Agriculture candidate only), at not more than two sittings in the SSCE (WAEC / NECO or GCE) or equivalent qualifications

b. Candidate must have taken the present academic year Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), e.g. 2013 and must have had a total score not of less then 180 (One hundred and eighty) in the relevant UTME subject combination. That is, Use of English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology or Agricultural science.

c. Admission into the Programme is usually through a screening test.

Uniuyo Postgraduate Admissions

Brief Introduction of the Postgraduate School

The University of Uyo Postgraduate School came into being with the establishment of the University in 1991 with pockets of programmes in few departments. Today, in addition to a number of Diploma programmes administered by the School of Continuing Education, the Postgraduate School runs 94 Ph.D and 108 Masters programmes spread across the 12 Faculties of the University. The programmes are marked by specializations.

Philosophy of the Postgraduate School

The philosophy of the Postgraduate School is to pursue scholarship through systematic academic and research programmes geared towards shaping the perception, thinking, moral, physical and emotional demeanor and sensitivities of the student. It accomplishes these through emphasis in research orientation which encourages originality of thought, venturesomeness, ability to break barriers of mental inhibitions and the extension of the frontiers and horizon of knowledge. To this end, our postgraduate students with their supervisors and advisers see themselves as catalysts in the mission to reverse the cycle of backwardness that afflicts the conditions of life in their communities and beyond.

Uniuyo Acceptance Fee

The UNIUYO Acceptance Fee is N25,000 only (Twenty-five Thousand Naira). The acceptance fee is non-refundable and is to be paid within the required time. The fee aids as evidence of acceptance into the institution.

  • How to Pay UNIUYO Acceptance Fee

Payment can be make online using ATM Card or at any commercial bank using the generated RRR. After paying your acceptance fee, the next step is to pay your school fees. Students are advised to pay early to avoid extra charges.

Uniuyo School Fees for 100 Level & DE

UNIUYO is a federal university; with moderate and affordable school fees, unlike the state owned universities where tuition fee is costly. UNIUYO is the only university in the south-east where Electronics and Computer Engineering has been accredited by the National Universities Commission and COREN.

The University of Uyo school fees for newly admitted students adds up to about N70,000 (Seventy thousand naira only). N60,000 (Sixty thousand naira only) for returning students.

UNIUYO Hostel Accommodation Fees

The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) hostel accommodation/bed space is N500 for newly admitted students (UTME and DE) as released by the management.

NOTE:

*Entrepreneurial Studies I & II is N2,000 for both new and returning ones. However, this fee is only paid by newcomers who enter the university via direct entry or 200 level UTME students.

*Hostel maintenance fee is N8,000 for all students accommodated in the university hostel.

*Clinical students hostel charge N20,000 for returning students only. However, this fee only applies to those accommodated in the clinical hostel.
